Simone Sniekers, Fashion Coordinator of Harper’s Bazaar Netherlands, tells Stivali how she discovered Lisbon and shares stories from a dream aesthetic universe, told through objects of desire.

Stivali is synonymous with… Stivali is synonymous with contemporary curated and elevated ready-to-wear wardrobes that embrace innovation, timeless artistry and refined craftsmanship.
The last thing you bought and loved… I’m definitely a coat person—my wardrobe is filled with coats for every occasion. Yet, somehow, a classic black coat was still missing. I spent the first days of 2025 in New York, where I stumbled upon the perfect one: a long, oversized black coat from Rick Owens. For me, this piece marks the beginning of a new year—a timeless, iconic staple that I’ll cherish for seasons to come.
Can you tell us about the most special piece in your closet? The most special piece in my closet is undoubtedly my Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso watch, once belonging to my mother. On the back, a heartfelt engraving from my father makes it even more meaningful. Wearing it feels like carrying a piece of their love story—a piece of me.
Which women do you admire? I admire many women in many different ways—whether in career, spirituality, or motherhood, there are countless inspiring examples to follow. But as a nostalgic person, the women I admire most are those in my own family—my direct support system. Seeing my mother in her younger years and recognizing parts of myself in her—the way she carries herself, her creative eye—fills me with inspiration, gratitude, and joy.
The best of your work… I’ve been working with Harper’s Bazaar Netherlands for over a decade, starting as their very first fashion intern and growing into various roles over the years. Now, as a freelancer, I continue to work with Harper’s Bazaar Netherlands, along with other publications and clients. After years of working under contract, having the freedom to travel, live in Lisbon instead of Amsterdam, and draw inspiration from the places I visit and the people I meet feels like a true gift. Being able to create from this ever-evolving perspective allows me to tap into my full creative potential—something I’m deeply grateful for.
The most memorable piece of clothing you’ve ever bought for one of your projects… I once bought a Madame-T from the Pleats Please collection by Issey Miyake, a designer who, alongside Dries Van Noten, is one of my all-time favorites. The way Issey Miyake blends color, material, and shape while honoring iconic Japanese heritage in every collection is truly inspiring. Beyond its beauty, the plissé fabric is also incredibly practical—especially for traveling, as the fabric never wrinkles. The Madame-T I purchased is an extraordinary piece, both in design and versatility. I’ve used it in numerous shoots on women of all shapes and sizes, proving just how timeless and adaptable it truly is.
What advice would you give to young women who are inspired by your career and would like to work in fashion styling? What I’ve learned from my own journey is that imagination is creation. The moment you can truly see yourself in a certain place—whether it’s working in a specific field, living somewhere new, or building a life with certain people—you’ve already taken the first step toward making it real. If it exists in your mind, there’s a path to achieving it. In today’s world, where almost anything is possible, it can be overwhelming—especially for younger generations—to decide what they truly want. That’s why clarity is key. Knowing what you want—and just as importantly, what you don’t—sets everything in motion. Combine that with motivation, the courage to ask for help, and an openness to learning from others, and the rest will unfold naturally.
What meaning do you attribute to International Women’s Day? For me, International Women’s Day is a moment of reflection—on the women who have shaped me, the ones who inspire me, and the generations still to come. I admire women in many different ways, whether in career, creativity, spirituality, or motherhood. But above all, I look to the women in my own family—my mother, my grandmother—who have been my foundation, my source of strength, and my example of resilience and grace. This day is not just about celebrating achievements but also about recognizing the nuances of being a woman—the balance between ambition and gentleness, independence and connection. It’s about acknowledging our power to create, nurture, and lead while staying true to ourselves. And on a personal level, it reminds me to embrace my own journey—to take up space, to create freely, and to encourage the next generation to imagine without limits.
